One of the core tenets of the Tabard Society is to give back to our community through organized charity events. We don't just contribute money though, we roll up our sleeves too!

The Charity Ball
Our largest charity event each year is Tabard's Charity Ball. Held every Fall, the Charity Ball is a charity fundraiser open to all who would like to attend. All proceeds raised support The Lupus Foundation of America. Tabard selected this worthwhile cause as a charity of particular importance to women, as 90% of the people affected are women. But Lupus also affects one of our members personally, and we are honored and excited to be able to help the research to find a cure.

Lupus is an immune deficiency disease that changes the lives of 1.4 mm Americans (that is more than AIDS and Multiple Sclerosis combined). There is presently no cure for Lupus. About 20% of the patients are unable to sustain employment and as a result must go on disability. Since lupus is only fatal in about 10 to 15% of the patients who seek treatment, it has not always received the funding for research that it deserves. However, it is the fourth leading cause of disability among women. Taking all of these factors into account we feel as a house the need to take action and help find a cure.

To date, Tabard has raised thousands of dollars for the Lupus Foundation.

The 2005 Charity Ball will be held in the Fall of 2005. This event is for students over the age of 21. For more information, please contact info@tabardsociety.com.

Philadelphia Community
Many Tabards are active throughout the West Philadelphia community as volunteers in soup kitchens and as volunteers in tutoring programs. We also participate in volunteer events through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.

Additional Fundraisers
Tabard typically raises funding for other worthwhile charities throughout the academic year. Charities receiving past support from Tabard include the American Red Cross and the Children's Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania.

Tabard also works with members of the Greek community for fundraising events.
